Bruce
Peeling, Architect
Two primary forces drive my work: the site and the client. The client
relationship is vitally important to me, and it is the reason I
work alone. I don’t want to impose any intermediaries between
the client and myself. I am the architect, draftsman, and project
manager for every home I design. This allows me to develop a comprehensive,
intimate relationship with the client and the site, and to blend
the client's desires and budget, the nature of the site, and the
character of the neighborhood with my legacy as an architect.
At our first meeting, I try to learn about the client's lifestyle.
We begin by talking about how they live now, and how they think
they want to live, but we move quickly beyond that. Most people
want to make small improvements to the lifestyles they already have.
They may not be able to envision anything different or better. My
job is to develop a deep understanding of the client’s needs,
and then to design a home that meets those needs better and more
beautifully than anything they could imagine.
